Expert Pessary Fitting

Are you experiencing vaginal discomfort due to pelvic floor disorders such as pelvic organ prolapse or urinary incontinence? Our clinic offers expert pessary fitting services to help you find relief and regain control of your pelvic health.

What is a Pessary?

A pessary is a silicone device that is inserted into the vagina to support the pelvic organs such as uterus, bladder and rectum. When a pessary is fitted properly, it will alleviate the sensations of downward pressure, sitting on a golf ball and having a bulge between your legs that associated with a prolapse. Our clinic offers expert pessary fitting services to help you find relief and regain control of your pelvic health. This is the reason why pessary fittings are not available at all pelvic floor physical therapy locations.

What is Pessary Fitting?

Pessary fitting is a specialized service designed to fit the pessary best suited for you to provide support to the pelvic organs and alleviate symptoms of pelvic floor disorders. A pessary is a non-surgical device that is inserted into the vagina to support the pelvic organs and alleviate symptoms such as prolapse and urinary incontinence.

What to Expect During Your Fitting?

During your pessary fitting appointment, we will have a complete medical history review and a vaginal exam ans part of the fitting process. This allows our doctors of physical therapy to assess how your medical history, skin integrity, prolapse severity and ability to self manage the device will impact the type of pessary that is best for your needs.

We have different shapes and sizes to best suit your needs. The pessary fitting process may take 2-3 pessaries to allow the best fit for comfort and lifestyle. During the appointment, with the fitted pessary, you will squat, walk and hop to test for comfort and effectiveness.

Benefits of a Pessary

A pessary is used to help support the pelvic organs for comfort and/or allow tissues and muscles to recover to provide self support. During childbirth, there may be changes to the pelvic tissues which require more support during the postpartum healing process. A pessary can support the organs to allow you to perform the activities you love without discomfort. This will provide more time for the tissues to heal. Some people will have age related changes to the support tissue of the pelvic organs. Using a pessary for additional support will allow to do the activities you enjoy without risk of injuries to the pelvic tissue.
