Our Approach to Male Pelvic Health
At Optimize Pelvic Health, we take a whole body approach to pelvic floor therapy. The pelvic floor is the only group of muscles to have direct nervous system input from the stress nerves, which means stress and hypervigilance can directly impact how the pelvic muscles behave.
- Stress nervous system patterns
- Organ related guarding impacting the pelvic floor
- Pelvic floor muscle tension, strength and coordination
- Hip and back mechanics
- Breathing, core and bowel mechanics.
Optimize Pelvic Health is the only clinic in the Bay Area that has a systematic way of assessing if stress is impacting your pelvic floor symptoms. When organs are stressed, the surrounding muscles guard and create tension to protect them. This can limit the pelvic floor’s ability to relax, stretch, coordination and strengthen appropriately.
By addressing these contributing factors, we can tailor treatment to address the drivers of the symptoms rather than the symptoms themselves.
What to Expect in the First Visit

Every visit, including the initial evaluation is a private one-on-one appointment.
We begin by discussing your symptoms, medical history and how they affect your daily life.
The evaluation may include:
- Movement and posture assessment
- Breathing assessment
- Assessment of back and hips
- Internal pelvic floor assessment (with consent)
If an internal pelvic floor assessment is recommended at the evaluation, your therapist will explain why and obtain consent.
Many men are relieved to learn that pelvic floor therapy involves multiple treatment approaches beyond Kegels.
